We usually keep pots of supermarket basil on a sunny window sill in our dining room. This means that we always have fresh basil for cooking and also they look very decorative. They are the only “houseplants” that we have. They last several months. We needed to use up the old plants before we replaced them. I noticed some English Pecorino for sale at The farmers market so I decided to make some pesto.
Every 4th Tuesday of the month the local produce market accommodates a few stalls for artisan products. The cheesemonger is James Grant from No 2 Pound Street in Wendover who specialise in British Cheeses.
The English Pecorino was from artisan cheesemaker White Lake Cheese has won Supreme Champion at this year’s British Cheese Awards.It is made from sheep’s milk by Roger Longman and Pete Humphries at White Lake Cheese, Pylle, Somerset.
