The golden shell Hebridean mussels are from the Loch Fyne Oysters company based in Argyll on the west coast of Scotland. The company was established in 1978. The mussels are grown on ropes in Loch Roag which is located on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.
When in Conil we eat these from a tin. They are often provided as a free aperitivo when we stop for an early evening drink ( Vermut for me and Albariño for Valerie) at Mas que Cajas which specialises in conservas. There is no tradition of serving free “tapas” in Cadiz so this is unusual and welcome.
