These Spotted Flounder (Tapaculo) were on sale in the Mercado Central in Càdiz, described as Japonesa. Elsewhere in los Puertos Gaditanos it is known as Tapaculo – literally “cover your ass”. This a name whose origin is unknown and applies to at least six other species including Scaldfish (Peluda) and Megrim (Gallo). It is also known as Peluda and Perro – names referring to its “hairy fins” It is a left-eyed fish.
