A friend donated a couple of plants and they grew really well on the allotment. They look so beautiful and alien. I made a sauce for pasta (orecchiette), inspired by Giorgio Locatelli who made minestra di broccoli e arzilla, (skate and romanesco soup) on his TV travel show “Rome Unpacked”
Romanesco is great with pasta. It cooks down to make a great sauce with garlic and salted anchovies; tossed into orecchiette or conchiglie with olive oil and Parmesan
Romanesco cauliflower is often called romanesco broccoli or calabrese romanesco – especially in Italian recipes. Its high season in the UK is October-November.
