My second attempt at sourdough. The first loaf fell from my makeshift proving bowl, making a “cowpat” shape on the baking tray and it collapsed a little. So for this loaf I purchased a banneton in order to improve the appearance

My father was a bread baker and our larder at home always contained a white cottage loaf or a bloomer and sometimes a lardy cake or iced custard slices. I occasionally helped him make bread rolls when he had no one else to help. It was back-breaking work. I love the idea of following the tradition.
